Schola Gregoriana Pragensis

Artistic Director David Eben

Schola Gregoriana Pragensis

The ensemble SCHOLA GREGORIANA PRAGENSIS was set up by David Eben in 1987. Since 1990 the Schola Gregoriana Pragensis has maintained close ties with the French ensemble Choeur Gregorien de Paris (David Eben completed a course in “ Gregorian Chant Conducting “ at the Paris Conservatory, and spent the following season conducting the Choeur Grégorien de Paris). The Schola Gregoriana Pragensis reserves considerable portions of its timetable for recording and live concerts productions, both in its home country and abroad (Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland). The ensemble`s CDs have recieved a number of awards: Choc du Monde de la Musique, 10 de Répertoire, Golden Harmony for the best Czech recording of the year.

The ensemble has been focusing its work firstly on the semiological interpretation of Gregorian chant based on the earliest neumatic sources from the 9th to 11th centuries, and secondly on presentation of the original Bohemian plainchant tradition, including early polyphony. Thanks to the ensemble`s intensive study of medieval sources, its programmes also include a number of unique, newly discovered compositions dating from the 13th to 15th centuries.
